Monkey Bars & More! Mac Mic Group Celebrates New Outdoor Play and Learning Facilities at Somerdale School
Representatives from Mac Mic Group were delighted to visit Somerdale Educate Together, a primary school in Keynsham, near Bristol, Somerset, to celebrate the completion of the newly redesigned outdoor play and learning area, made possible in part by a £4,000 donation from the Mac Mic Foundation.
Sam O’Regan, Deputy Head at Somerdale Educate Together, expressed his appreciation: “We are all so immensely grateful to Mic Mac Group for the very kind and generous donation of £4,000 towards playground equipment for our school grounds. As a Gold Rights Respecting School, this makes a huge difference to all our children, respecting their right to rest and play. Without your donation, we would not be able to provide this incredible addition to our environment."
Somerdale Educate Together is the only Bath & North East Somerset School to have achieved a Gold UNICEF Rights Respecting School Award to date. The redesign of the outdoor play and learning area was developed with outdoor play leaders and direct input from the children.
During their visit, representatives from Mac Mic Group had the pleasure of meeting a group of enthusiastic Rights Respecting Ambassadors from across the school. Basking in the warm sunshine, it was a heartwarming experience to see firsthand the joy the new space brought to the students. The children's excited energy was contagious as they explored the monkey bars, den-making equipment, experimented with creative configurations and relaxed in the comfortable new seating areas – a true testament to the project's success.
The Rights Respecting Ambassadors further brightened the day by presenting the Mac Mic Group representatives with a beautiful thank you card. The Ambassadors expressed their gratitude for the new facilities, highlighting how it allows them to exercise their right to play and socialise freely. This interaction served as a powerful reminder of the importance of creating nurturing environments that support children's well-being and development.
Andrew Mickel Director, Mac Mic Group said: "I was blown away by the sheer pride radiating from both school leaders and children – a testament to the outdoor space’s child-led design. There's no better reward than seeing the direct impact of our support. The joy on the children’s faces as they explored the new playground is a powerful reminder of the importance of investing in our communities. It's a pleasure to know we've played a role in supporting Somerdale’s mission to create a nurturing environment for all their students."
