Mac Mic Group resubmits joint application for 500 new homes and primary school near Tewkesbury
Mac Mic Group has recently resubmitted an outline planning applications for 500 new homes and a new primary school at Bredon Road, Mitton, near Tewkesbury.
The site, which is being jointly promoted by Barratt David Wilson Homes, comprises 65 acres at Tewksbury Road (B4080) in Mitton on the northern outskirts of Tewkesbury.
The site is situated within Wychavon but will largely contribute towards the housing needs of Tewkesbury.
The plans were originally submitted to Wychavon District council in April 2018. Despite initially being recommended for approval by Planning Officers, the Council refused the applications in May 2022. Following a public inquiry, appeals against these refusals were subsequently dismissed by a Planning Inspector in a shock decision in November 2022.
It is crucial to highlight the Inspector’s view that “There can be no credible case that the principle of 500 dwellings at Mitton is in conflict with the development plan, taken as a whole.” Despite this clear and overwhelming indication of the suitability of the scheme, the Inspector ultimately felt that there was an element of uncertainty regarding the potential highways impacts of the development in an unprecedented rejection of the views of three statutory highways authorities, including National Highways, who all agreed with the submitted Transport Assessment that the scheme was acceptable.
Following this decision, further highways assessments are underway that will support the applications and it is hoped that what is recognised as an appropriate and sustainable development will soon come to fruition.
